Mixael Santiago Rodríguez, a 62-year-old salesman, has been charged with embezzling over $100,000 from a company based in Mayagüez, where he worked. According to the investigation, Rodríguez would deliver sales reports and invoices every Friday, but the company's owner discovered payments and invoices generated on weekends, when Rodríguez was not working. An audit of Rodríguez's sales route revealed over $100,000 in unreported transactions between January 2020 and December 2023.
The investigation found that Rodríguez made these transactions on weekends to avoid detection. He has been charged with aggravated illegal appropriation and fraud, and a judge has set a $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 14.
The investigation was led by Agent Félix A. Rodríguez Cortés, in coordination with prosecutor Teresita del Rosario Morales Arteaga.
