San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero Lugo reacted to a fire reported the previous day at the Sabana Llana substation in Carolina, which affected thousands of customers, calling it an example of the fragility of Puerto Rico's electrical system and its power-generation problems. Romero Lugo also raised doubts about the contract awarded to Power Expectations, questioning the process used to formalize the agreement and describing the justifications offered for it as "livianas" (flimsy).
Asked whether he trusts Energy Czar Josué Colón, the mayor said that, based on press coverage, the official has not been available, adding that questions have been raised about Colón's testimony before the House of Representatives and that he should provide answers. Separately, former DACO (Department of Consumer Affairs) Secretary Valerie Rodríguez created a website, tureclamopr.org, designed to make it easier for those affected to file complaints.
