The US Coast Guard extracted and transported a 32-year-old crew member from the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Allure of the Seas, which was 65 nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, to receive medical attention for severe abdominal pain. The crew member was airlifted to the Borinquen air station and then taken to the Buen Samaritano hospital in Aguadilla by ambulance.
According to Commander Zachery Greyer, the successful mission demonstrates the importance of interagency collaboration and close communication with medical personnel on ships. The Coast Guard dispatched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to extract the crew member using an aerial basket. The patient's name was not released.
The rescue was coordinated by the San Juan Sector, which received the medical evacuation request from the cruise ship's personnel.
