Puerto Rico is among the main exporters and consumers of Protos wine, along with countries like the United States, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. According to Luisa de Paz, Vice President of Exports at Bodegas Protos, the island represents around 50% of Protos' exports. During a recent visit to the island, De Paz met with El Hórreo, a specialized wine store owned by V. Suárez, which has been a client of Protos for over four decades.
The expansion of Protos coincides with the growth of the wine market in Puerto Rico, with importations reaching 8.8 million liters in 2025, valued at $83.2 million. Spain remains the main supplier, with 2.6 million liters. Protos has a commercial relationship with Ribera del Duero and offers various wines, including Protos Roble, Crianza, and Gran Reserva.
The relationship between Protos and Puerto Rico also extends to wine tourism, with over 254,000 tourists visiting the winery since 2009.
