The organization Solo por Hoy, which supports people who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes, held a 'Construyendo el Futuro' Services Fair to prevent youth homelessness. The event, sponsored by the organization's Youth Advisory Committee, provided around 400 adolescent students with guidance and tools on accessing housing, finances, legal aid, and education.
Solo por Hoy's founder and executive director, Belinda Hill, stated that the goal is to prepare the next generation to avoid the challenge of finding housing without resources. The organization created this program after realizing that youth homelessness was not being detected in annual counts because young people were staying in cars, friends' or family members' homes, or university hallways.
A study on youth homelessness revealed the need for information on accessing services, which is being addressed at the fair held at the Rubén Zayas Montañez Coliseum in Trujillo Alto.
