Construction has resumed on the Hotel Ojo de Agua in the urban center of Rincón, Puerto Rico, with a groundbreaking ceremony held the previous day, the government reported. The project, funded with $6.1 million in CDBG-DR funds, will complete a previously unfinished structure. Once finished, the hotel will have 16 guest rooms, reception areas, administrative offices, laundry, kitchen, a bar and restaurant, a spa, and a meeting room.
Plans also call for terraces, commercial spaces with income-generating potential, improvements to the interior courtyard, and an optimized pool area. Work will include installation and modernization of electrical equipment, redesign of the cistern, drainage works, improvements to extraction systems, and construction of service areas needed for the facility's operation. According to the Puerto Rico Department of Housing, the work is expected to take about one year and generate 46 direct jobs.
Officials said the project will expand lodging and tourism-related services—one of the municipality's main economic drivers—while opening space for commercial activity and revenue generation in the heart of Rincón.
