Judge Alba I. Calderón Cestero of the Arecibo Court of First Instance found cause for arrest against Juan A. Román Serrano, 47, accused of mistreating and threatening his 80-year-old mother with a white weapon. Román Serrano was taken to the Bayamón prison after failing to post a $750,000 bail. According to the police investigation, the incident occurred on September 24 when Román Serrano arrived with his mother at the Arecibo Police Station in a gray RAM 1500 truck.
There, he allegedly assumed a hostile attitude, used profanity, and restricted his mother's movements, leading to his arrest. The victim also reported that her son had allegedly threatened her with a white weapon at their residence. Prosecutor Carolina Medina De Gracia filed charges for mistreatment of an elderly person, mistreatment by threat, and possession and use of white weapons. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 9.
