Governor Jenniffer González Colón led a ceremony granting 72 promotions within the Puerto Rico Fire Bureau (NCBPR), part of the Department of Public Safety (DSP). The event, held at the Hyatt Hotel in Río Grande, also included the delivery of three new fire suppression trucks and one tanker truck. DSP Secretary Arturo Garffer and NCBPR Commissioner Josué Piñeiro Torres attended.
During the ceremony, new ranks were officially conferred and certificates presented. The promotions break down as follows: 12 to Fire Prevention Inspector I, eight to Fire Prevention Inspector II, nine to Fire Prevention Inspector III, 20 to sergeant, 15 to lieutenant, and eight to captain. Governor González Colón said in a written statement that the promotions recognize 72 firefighters who have dedicated years of service to protecting lives and property and are now assuming new responsibilities, adding that the effort is paired with investment in equipment and resources to strengthen emergency response and support first responders.
She also noted that strengthening the bureau requires comprehensively addressing human resources, supervisory structure, and available equipment for emergency response.
