The National Meteorological Service (SNM) in San Juan reported that weather conditions in Puerto Rico will be more active on Sunday due to the arrival of a tropical wave, bringing increased humidity and more frequent showers and thunderstorms. The SNM said humidity levels will remain within normal values for this time of year but are expected to be slightly higher than in recent days, with more frequent showers in wind-exposed areas throughout the day.
In the afternoon, rain and thunderstorm activity will increase, especially in the interior and the west and northwest of Puerto Rico. Showers could also develop in leeward areas of El Yunque and the Virgin Islands, with a possibility of some of these systems reaching sectors of the San Juan metropolitan area. The SNM warned of potential flash flooding, urban flooding, and rapid rises in river levels, as well as an increased risk of landslides due to saturated soil.
Despite the increased rain activity, heat will remain a factor during the hottest hours of the day, with a high risk of heat until at least Sunday and possibly Monday. The SNM recommends staying hydrated, taking frequent breaks during outdoor activities, and monitoring weather alerts and forecasts.
