The University of Puerto Rico's Dr. Federico Trilla Hospital received three new accreditations from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), being designated a Center of Excellence in Orthopedic Surgery, Robotic Joint Replacement, and Minimally Invasive Surgery. These join its existing Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery accreditation, raising its total Centers of Excellence from one to four. Executive director Yelitza Sánchez Rodríguez said the achievement places the hospital and Puerto Rico in a prominent position in surgical excellence, reflecting years of clinical discipline and innovation.
SRC accreditation requires an independent evaluation of surgical experience and volume, facilities and equipment, care processes, patient education, and continuous quality improvement systems. The effort was coordinated by Yasirie Ríos Rodríguez, director of Nursing, with contributions from Dr. Antonio Otero López, director of the Orthopedics Department, and the Orthopedics Unit clinical team. Dr. Otero additionally received individual SRC accreditation as a Master Surgeon in the three new areas, recognizing his surgical experience and commitment to safety and quality.
Otero said the accreditations result from continuous work to strengthen processes, incorporate technology, and standardize care.
