The Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) reported that 15 of the 19 reservoirs it monitors have registered new decreases in water levels, while three experienced increases and one remained unchanged. La Plata reservoir, which supplies water to around 130,828 customers in several municipalities, dropped 9 centimeters in the last 24 hours to 44.22 meters, a level corresponding to the operational adjustments phase.
It is 3.72 meters away from reaching the control phase, where more restrictive measures to reduce water consumption can be adopted. Other reservoirs that registered decreases include Dos Bocas, which dropped 25 centimeters, and Carraízo, which dropped 5 centimeters. The US Drought Monitor reported that the area affected by extreme drought in Puerto Rico decreased from 37.14% to 9.64%, and the area affected by severe drought decreased from 57.19% to 45.25%. However, the monitor noted that in some areas, river flow remains below normal.
