Nelson Torres Delgado, also known as 'El Burro', has pleaded guilty to leading a criminal organization involved in drug distribution and accepted responsibility for a death. He agreed to a sentence of 30 to 32 years in prison as part of a plea deal with the federal prosecution. Torres Delgado admitted to directing the organization and giving instructions to other members to further their objectives.
He also admitted to possessing cocaine with the intention of distributing it. The conspiracy, which began around 2017, operated in Caguas and other areas of Puerto Rico. The agreement identifies several public housing projects and sectors as locations related to the drug distribution activities.
Torres Delgado also admitted to using firearms during the commission of drug trafficking crimes, which resulted in the death of a person identified as R.M.O. The charges carry penalties of up to life imprisonment, but the prosecution and defense will recommend a sentence of 30 to 32 years. The agreement also includes the forfeiture of assets related to the criminal activities, including income from drug trafficking, firearms, and ammunition.
