Charges have been filed against José A. Herrera Fontánez, a 59-year-old municipal police officer in Río Grande, for allegedly committing lewd acts against a 53-year-old woman in October 2024. According to the Puerto Rico Police investigation, Herrera Fontánez allegedly touched the woman's intimate parts over her clothing without her consent. Investigating agent Jayleen Ocasio García consulted with prosecutor Clarimar Álvarez Carrasquillo, who instructed the filing of charges.
The evidence was presented to Judge Michelle Pérez Maldonado of the Fajardo Court, who determined cause for arrest and set a $5,000 bail, which Herrera Fontánez posted. After the procedure, he was booked and released until the preliminary hearing, scheduled for a later date. The investigation was supervised by sergeants Yolanda Orellana Pagán and Josué Meléndez Maldonado, under the direction of Lieutenant Isabel López Lebrón.
