Residents of several Naranjito communities will face water rationing starting Friday, October 2, because of falling water levels in the Cedro reservoirs. Naranjito Mayor Orlando Ortiz Chevres announced that the interruption plan begins at 6:00 a.m. and will last 48 hours. According to the mayor, the situation mainly affects residents of Cedro Abajo, Cedro Arriba and sectors along highway PR-152, where the reservoirs no longer hold enough water to keep the distribution system running at a high level.
Ortiz Chevres said on social media that the Cedro reservoirs no longer have enough water to sustain the system at a high percentage of distribution. The rationing is divided into two zones, C and D. Zone C includes Higuillales, Maná, El Pueblito, highways PR-802, PR-810 and PR-152 (from the La Parrillada restaurant to the Los Boricuas restaurant), the stretch from the dentists' office on PR-152 to the PR-811 intersection, and surrounding communities.
Zone D includes sector Los Ferrer, Cedro Arriba, the pump station on PR-811 next to La Parrillada, parts of Cedro Bajo, sector Pelusa, Los Bistec, PR-809, surrounding communities, La Sabana and camino Los Berríos. Rationing starts in Zone C, which will have no potable water service on Friday or Saturday. The mayor said the measure responds directly to reduced water availability in the Cedro reservoirs and its impact on the system's distribution capacity.
