The National Weather Service (NWS) in San Juan issued a flood warning on Thursday for the eastern municipalities of Humacao, Las Piedras and Naguabo, due to heavy rains associated with thunderstorms affecting the area. The warning remains in effect until 7:00 p.m. According to the NWS, at 5:06 p.m. Doppler radar detected intense rainfall over the three municipalities, where up to 2 inches of precipitation had already accumulated.

The agency anticipated up to 2 additional inches of rain, which could cause urban flooding and flooding in small streams, mainly in low-lying areas and places with poor drainage. The NWS urged drivers not to attempt to cross flooded roads and reminded the public that most flood-related deaths occur inside vehicles.
