The Caguas Prosecutor's Office has filed 14 charges against Carlos Reyes Torres, a 49-year-old mechanic, for allegedly defrauding four elderly adults out of $31,000 by charging for vehicle repairs that were never made. Reyes Torres faces charges of aggravated illegal appropriation, mistreatment of elderly persons, and fraud under articles 182, 127(a), and 202 of the Puerto Rico Penal Code.
He also faces charges for violating Article 18 of Law 8 for the Protection of Vehicle Property. Judge Karina Díaz Pérez of the Caguas Court found cause for arrest on all charges and set a $28,000 bond. Reyes Torres will remain free under electronic supervision.
