Published Oct 3, 2026, 2:34 PM ASTvia Primera Hora

Why this matters: This achievement opens new opportunities for young Puerto Ricans in the modeling and performing arts industries, particularly those from low-income communities.

Puerto Rico’s Jomar Rosa Malavé, who represented the island in the Mister International 2026 competition, was named Mister América, a distinction the island has achieved for the first time in the 18-year history of this international male beauty competition. Rosa Malavé, from Adjuntas, achieved the highest score among American continent representatives after Mexico’s Andrés Briseño, who was crowned Mister International 2026.

As Mister América, Rosa Malavé will assume commitments and activities in America for a year, in coordination with the international organization. He will participate in the Florida Fashion Week in November and received a scholarship to study acting in Madrid, Spain, from Puerto Rican actor and producer Antonio Morales. The local organization Mister Beauty International Puerto Rico highlighted Rosa Malavé’s achievement and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting opportunities for young Puerto Ricans interested in modeling and the performing arts, especially those from low-income communities.
