Senator Wanda Soto confirmed that former official Blanca Medina Díaz and Family Secretary Suzanne Roig Fuertes have been summoned to a public hearing next Wednesday, October 7. The Senate Commission on Family, Women, the Elderly and Persons with Functional Diversity is investigating complaints of irregularities in the approval and signing of a $38.5 million services contract that would have involved reassigning federal funds.
Medina Díaz alleges she was pressured to sign the contract, refused, and was removed from her post for that reason. A contract draft, documents from a trip to Louisiana, and questions about the companies involved were cited as grounds for an investigation at the Department of the Family. When asked by WKAQ 580, the Family Secretary did not specify whether she reported the alleged threats to the Police.
