The Bayamón court set a $1 million bail for Harry López, 52, a Guaynabo resident charged with fatally stabbing a 67-year-old man. The incident was reported around 10:31 p.m. on Friday on road PR-837 in the Santa Rosa I ward of Guaynabo. According to the preliminary investigation, a call to the 9-1-1 Emergency System alerted authorities to a person wounded with a bladed weapon.
Arriving officers found Ezequiel Gómez Rentas, 67, with a neck wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died. López was initially detained by Guaynabo Municipal Police officers.
He had a 2003 criminal record for controlled substances and an active arrest warrant for a traffic infraction in the state of Florida. The Bayamón Prosecutor's Office filed charges of first-degree murder and violation of the Weapons Law. Judge Miriam Stefan Acta found probable cause and set the million-dollar bail.
Unable to post it, López was jailed in the Bayamón prison until the preliminary hearing.
