Adriana Díaz, a world-renowned table tennis player from Puerto Rico, received a warm welcome in China during the Smash tournament of the World Table Tennis. A large crowd of fans gathered to get her autograph and take photos with her. Díaz, 25, competed in singles and mixed doubles, narrowly losing to Japan’s Satsuki Odo in singles after a comeback attempt.
She was paired with Germany’s Patrick Franziska in mixed doubles and was eliminated in the quarterfinals by China’s Lin Gaoyuan and Wang Yidi. Díaz has been a leading figure in table tennis for over a decade, having reached the second position worldwide in the Sub-21 category and ninth in the adult category. She has represented Puerto Rico in three Olympic Games.
