The municipality of Morovis will offer a lecture on seismic rehabilitation for houses built on stilts or slopes to protect them from earthquakes. Mayor Carmen Maldonado González announced that the lecture will take place on Friday, October 9, at 10:30 AM at the Anfiteatro Municipal Oscar E. Rodríguez. The lecture will be given by Dr. José A. Martínez Cruzado, an engineer and co-author of the book 'Rehabilitación sísmica en casas de zancos’.
Maldonado González emphasized the importance of preparation, citing the island’s location near seismic faults, including the Puerto Rico Trench, which can generate earthquakes with a magnitude of over 8.0. The lecture will provide information on rehabilitation options, such as constructing reinforced concrete walls between existing columns. The mayor stressed the importance of prevention and education in the process.
