Why this matters: The case highlights the issue of domestic violence in Puerto Rico, where Law 54 aims to protect victims of domestic abuse.

Rose M. Torres Pabón, a 35-year-old resident of Lajas, faces charges under Article 3.1 of Law 54 for allegedly beating her partner with a belt on October 1. Agents Milton Ayala and Alex Mass, with the supervision of Sergeant Bernice Rosario, investigated the case and consulted with prosecutor Derick Rivera, who instructed them to file charges.

The evidence was presented to Judge Margianne Casiano Pérez, who determined there was probable cause for arrest and set a $200,000 bond, which Torres Pabón did not post. She was booked and taken to the Bayamón Correctional Complex. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 15.

The investigation found that Torres Pabón allegedly used a belt to hit her partner in different parts of the body and threatened them.
