The musical 'Maestra Vida, El Musical de Rubén Blades’ is coming to Puerto Rico for the first time, with performances on November 27, 28, and 29 at the Centro de Bellas Artes Luis A. Ferré in Santurce. The production, directed by Edwin Cedeño, tells the story of Carmelo Da Silva, a neighborhood tailor, and his wife Manuela Pérez, a strong woman, throughout their lives, including their romance, wedding, the birth of their son Ramiro, daily struggles, old age, and final goodbye, all under the watchful eye of Vava Quiñones, the owner of the local bar.
The musical features a live orchestra conducted by Roberto Delgado, a 12-time Grammy winner, who has worked with Rubén Blades for years. The production originated in Panama, where it has been performed 35 times over the past three and a half years, and now comes to Puerto Rico with 50 actors and dancers on stage, plus the live orchestra.
The story explores the joys and wounds of a family, including conflicts, differences, and unresolved issues.
