  • The party restored Bachier Román’s positions within the party.
  • The PPD reserved the right to reimpose disciplinary measures if a similar situation arises in the future.

Why this matters: The decision affects the political leadership and representation of the Municipality of Arroyo, with Bachier Román resuming his roles within the PPD.

The Popular Democratic Party (PPD) lifted the suspension imposed on Arroyo Mayor Eric Bachier Román and restored all his positions within the party after complaints against him alleging workplace harassment and sexual harassment were dismissed. PPD Secretary General Manuel Calderón Cerame communicated the decision in a letter dated October 7 addressed to the mayor. The letter said the investigation by the Arroyo municipality’s Hearing Examiner concluded with a determination to dismiss the complaints.

Bachier Román notified the Secretary General’s office in writing that the complainants did not seek reconsideration of that final determination and that no civil lawsuit by them is currently pending against him. On that basis the suspension applied under articles 97 and 99 of the PPD Regulation was lifted, and all positions he holds as PPD president in Arroyo within the party’s structures were restored.

The party warned it reserves the authority to apply articles 97 and 99 again in any similar situation in the future, if necessary. Bachier Román was temporarily suspended from all PPD leadership positions in December 2025 after at least two complaints were filed. At that time, Calderón Cerame said the PPD would not tolerate gender violence in any form and that the suspension would remain until the administrative process begun in the Arroyo municipality concluded.
