Tropical Storm Isaias is producing 65 mph winds in the Gulf of Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center’s 5 p.m. bulletin. It is forecast to become the first hurricane of the Atlantic season within the next 12 to 24 hours. Landfall is expected between Friday night and early Saturday morning somewhere between the Mississippi coast and the Florida Panhandle in the United States.
Forecasters expect storm surge of 5 to 7 feet, dangerous winds, and rainfall of 3 to 7 inches, with isolated amounts of up to 10 inches. In Puerto Rico, a tropical wave continues to leave abundant moisture over the island. It will gradually move away on Thursday, bringing improved weather.
Friday should be a day of stable weather, but a trough is forecast to bring more rain over the weekend.
