A jury delivered a guilty verdict in the second federal trial of Ivonne M. Falcón Nieves, former vice president of the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA), on charges of conspiracy and electronic fraud to honest services. The verdict came after 12 days of trial, where testimonies, documentary evidence, and final arguments were presented before District Judge Pedro A. Delgado Hernández.
The case against Falcón Nieves dates back to December 2015, when she and her sister, Marielis Falcón Nieves, were accused of corruption schemes along with other officials and former Partido Popular Democrático (PPD) treasurer Anaudi Hernández. The new trial was ordered after the First Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston revoked Falcón Nieves’ initial sentence of three years and five months in prison in August 2023.
The prosecution presented evidence related to Sally López, former head of the Labor Law Administration (ADL), to corroborate Hernández’s testimony. The sentencing hearing is set for January 15, 2027. Falcón Nieves’ defense team included attorneys Kendys Pimentel Soto and Francisco Rebollo Casalduc, while the federal prosecution was represented by Timothy Henwood and María Lugo Colom.
