About 50 teachers and directors from over 13 public schools in Puerto Rico’s eastern region, including Vieques and Culebra, participated in a workshop on legislative processes. The initiative, led by House of Representatives President Carlos 'Johnny' Méndez, aims to bring the parliamentary process and citizen participation into the classroom, giving students and teachers the opportunity to learn about the Legislative Assembly’s functioning and participate in experiences such as drafting bills and resolutions.
Olga O. López, executive director of the Legislative Services Office, said participants received training on the Legislative Power, the Student Legislator Program, and the use of the Single Legislative Procedure System (SUTRA). The workshop also covered multiple legislative platforms, parliamentary processes, and protocols used in the House of Representatives. The Office of Citizen Participation was discussed, which promotes and facilitates citizen integration into legislative processes through training and opinion canalization.
The workshop is part of efforts to strengthen education and bring new generations closer to the legislative process, promoting greater understanding and citizen participation from communities and schools.
