Puerto Rico House of Representatives Speaker Carlos 'Johnny' Méndez and District #11 Representative Elinette González Aguayo, whose district covers Dorado, Vega Alta and Vega Baja, inspected the Manuel 'Nolo' Morales beach facility in Dorado on Friday as part of plans to refurbish the site. The Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA) has $242,889.91 in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds assigned for the work, which includes reconditioning the parking area, remodeling the bathrooms and administrative offices, building a new entrance booth, and cleaning and maintaining green areas, among other projects.
The work is in the final design stage, and the project is expected to be submitted to FEMA for approval before the end of the year. During the visit, officials also explored the possibility of signing a collaborative agreement to rebuild the perimeter fence. Méndez said the beach facility has great potential to become an economic development hub for Dorado and that the House will keep inspecting the work until it is completed.
The inspection is part of Méndez’s '100 x 35' community-impact project, aimed at direct dialogue with residents across Puerto Rico. González Aguayo said she has met with DRNA Secretary Waldemar Quiles to follow up on the plans, and that the House will also work with the Puerto Rico Tourism Company on the project.
