Why this matters: The exhibition offers a unique opportunity for the Puerto Rican community to engage with a powerful and thought-provoking work of art that addresses important social issues, such as gender violence and women’s empowerment, and to experience the transformative power of collective action.

The Liga de Arte de San Juan invites the public to the opening of 'Encuentro: no hay que esperar a que las piezas estén completas’, a solo exhibition by renowned Puerto Rican artist Anaida Hernández, on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 7:00 PM, at the Galería Delta de Picó. The exhibition will remain open until December 3, 2026. 'Encuentro' features a monumental installation composed of over 50 three-dimensional and relief paintings and sculptures, inspired by the collective flight of birds, which Hernández uses as a metaphor to address women’s experiences, resistance to gender violence, and the transformative power of collective action.

According to Marilú Carrasquillo, executive director of the Liga de Arte de San Juan, 'Encuentro' speaks to women’s resistance and the strength that emerges when they recognize, accompany, and advance together. Hernández’s work shifts the gaze from vulnerability to solidarity, agency, and the capacity for reconstruction, emphasizing that the pieces do not need to be complete to find, accompany, and advance together.

The exhibition is a tribute to recovered dignity and an act of hope for women and men of the future. Anaida Hernández is a multidisciplinary artist, researcher, and documentarian, with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Puerto Rico and a Master’s degree in Engraving from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

The exhibition will be open to the public from October 15 to December 3, 2026, at the Galería Delta de Picó, with free admission.
