On Wednesday, Puerto Rico is expected to experience a hot day as the island transitions to a drier period, according to Mariangelis Marrero Colón, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS). Conditions will be variable with limited rain activity, with mostly clear skies and occasional clouds that may generate brief showers in the east during the morning.
The clear skies will lead to an increase in heat indices to between 102 and 107 degrees Fahrenheit. Marrero recommended that people stay hydrated and take breaks from sun exposure if they plan to engage in outdoor activities. As the day progresses, the pattern is expected to change in southwestern Puerto Rico due to a gentle east-northeast wind component, with rain activity focusing on municipalities such as Cabo Rojo, Lajas, and Mayagüez.
Meanwhile, marine conditions will remain moderate with waves of three to four feet in the north and east coasts of Puerto Rico and the island municipality of Culebra, and up to five feet in the open sea.
