In Puerto Rico, the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Annual Conference is being held at the Puerto Rico Convention Center from October 12 to 16, bringing together hundreds of cruise industry representatives to strengthen business relationships and attract new cruise operations. Puerto Rico Gov. Jenniffer González Colón said hosting the conference provides an opportunity to pursue additional investment and tourism activity, as the cruise industry is a key part of the island’s economic and tourism development vision.
The island is seeking to attract more homeport operations and increase visits from ships making transit calls, which could create opportunities for local hotels, restaurants, transportation companies, retailers, and tour operators. Puerto Rico Tourism Company Executive Director Willianette Robles Cancel highlighted the island’s port infrastructure, location, and range of visitor experiences as competitive advantages in the cruise market.
The conference will discuss industry needs, exchange knowledge, and explore potential partnerships, with the goal of strengthening Puerto Rico’s appeal and creating opportunities for local businesses and suppliers. The FCCA represents more than 30 member destinations and promotes initiatives involving shore excursions, port operations, and tourism infrastructure. As the conference continues, discussions are expected to focus on opportunities to strengthen cruise tourism, develop new partnerships, and expand the industry’s contribution to Puerto Rico’s economy.
Gov. González Colón emphasized that the growth of the cruise industry should translate into more investment, jobs, and opportunities for the people of Puerto Rico. The conference provides a platform for government officials and private-sector representatives to connect with industry representatives and showcase the island as a cruise destination.
