Puerto Rico Lacks Banking and Home Sales Statistics

Published Oct 15, 2026, 12:16 PM ASTvia Sin Comillas

Why this matters: The lack of current banking and home sales data leaves Puerto Rico’s financial sector and real estate market without crucial information, affecting businesses and individuals who rely on these statistics for decision-making.

In Puerto Rico, the Office of the Commissioner of Financial Institutions (OCIF) is adopting a new platform for the financial information repository of institutions operating on the island. Although the implementation process is in its final phase, the OCIF does not have an approximate idea of when the FIRE system will be functioning. The agency announced that statistics for the first quarter of 2026 will not be available due to the development and implementation of the new financial analysis platform.

The last available data corresponds to the fourth quarter of 2025, leaving a gap in information on loans, deposits, mortgage loan originations, and home sales. Once the new platform is operational, financial information will be available in a more agile, secure, and complete manner, with access to data in almost real-time.
