Puerto Rico artist Bobby Cruz’s new exhibition, 'Uno solo puede ser feliz siendo lo que uno es’, opens on October 20 at Galería Petrus in Miramar. The show features paintings, ceramics, and neon pieces that invite the public to explore Cruz’s visual universe, deeply influenced by Puerto Rican popular culture. Cruz’s work transforms familiar places like La Casita Blanca, Fisha’o, and El Sabroso into energetic images.
The exhibition includes neon signs with expressions like 'Acho' and 'Más perreo', which incorporate the familiarity of speech and the energy of dance. Cruz’s recent work has been featured in important cultural and musical events, including the 'Dancing the Revolution' exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and Bad Bunny’s concerts at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot.
Born in San Juan in 1984, Cruz obtained a bachelor’s degree in painting from the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico in 2008. His artistic practice includes drawing, painting, sculpture, and installation, and his work is part of collections like the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico and the Museo de Arte de Ponce.
