In San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Municipality of San Juan conducted a nighttime operation to inspect several commercial establishments, resulting in 30 fines totaling $41,300 and the seizure of seven firearms, 30 magazines, and 579 rounds of ammunition. The operation, which took place between Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, was part of the administration’s efforts to enforce the Public Order Code and other regulations governing commercial operations in the capital.
One of the most significant findings occurred at Golden Market, where agents found the business operating with closed doors but with dozens of customers inside. The authorities also found violations of the Public Order Code and seized alcoholic beverages. The situation became more serious when police found seven firearms, 30 magazines, and 579 rounds of ammunition in plain sight.
The police commissioner, Juan Jackson, stated that the findings require a thorough investigation. The operation comes just days after a massacre at Zoila Café in Río Piedras, where three people died and nine were injured. The mayor, Miguel Romero Lugo, has called for greater legal powers to cancel permits for repeat offenders without lengthy administrative and judicial processes.
The municipality will continue to conduct operations in different sectors of the capital to inspect commercial establishments and address non-compliance with municipal regulations.
