Three criminal charges were filed against Puerto Rico Police agent Jean Emil Rivera Hiraldo after an incident at the Metropolitan Drug Division barracks in Guaynabo, Justice Secretary Lourdes L. Gómez Torres announced. The Public Integrity and Comptroller Affairs Division investigated and found that Rivera Hiraldo used a fire extinguisher to strike a door at the barracks Monday night.

An agent on duty heard the blows and saw him with the extinguisher in hand. Questioned, he told her a lieutenant had sent him to fetch $1,500. Minutes later he was found in the evidence room counting money and holding a baseball bat.

Prosecutor José Villarmarzo Rodríguez filed charges of aggravated damage, attempted illegal appropriation, and violations of the Weapons Law, under Articles 199 and 182 of the Penal Code and Article 6.06 of the Weapons Law. Judge Miriam Stefan Acta, of the Bayamón Court of First Instance, found probable cause for arrest only on the aggravated damage charge and set $10,000 bail, which the agent posted.

She found no cause on the other two charges, and the prosecution requested a higher court review of both. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 3. Agent Vilna Rodríguez Rodríguez of the Special Investigations Bureau led the investigation.
