A Bayamón judge, Miriam Stefan Acta, found probable cause for arrest for one count of aggravated damage against Jean Emil Rivera Hiraldo, an agent assigned to the Metropolitan Drug Division, the Department of Justice reported. Rivera Hiraldo was detained on October 18 at 11:05 PM after damaging several doors of the administration office and the evidence room of the Drug Division at the Juan Domingo precinct, apparently searching for a white envelope containing money.
According to the investigation by the Special Investigations Bureau (NIE) and the Division of Public Integrity and Comptroller Affairs, he used a fire extinguisher to hit a precinct door. An agent on duty heard the blows and saw him with the extinguisher in hand; when asked what he was doing, he said a lieutenant had sent him to fetch $1,500.
He was later found in the evidence room counting money and holding a bat. Prosecutor José Villarmarzo Rodríguez filed three charges: aggravated damage, attempted illegal appropriation, and a weapons law violation. The judge found probable cause only on the aggravated damage charge and set $10,000 bail, which he posted.
She found no probable cause on the other two counts, so the prosecution requested a review hearing. A preliminary hearing was set for November 3. A lieutenant and a sergeant saw the acts, and the agent, with five years of service, was taken into custody.
For health reasons he was fingerprinted on October 20. The investigation was led by NIE agent Vilna Rodríguez Rodríguez.
