Merengue singer Junny Ramos celebrated his 40th anniversary in the genre on Saturday, October 17, packing the Salón La Rosa in Bayamón, which was transformed to evoke the glory days of the Salón Villa Real, 'La Casa del Merengue'. He performed 'Jardín prohibido', 'Alza tu copa', 'Me has echado al olvido', 'La Condena', 'Cariño' and 'Amor Divino' as a tribute to Álex Bueno.
Trained classically with the Coro de Varones de Puerto Rico and a natural baritone, Ramos debuted at 13 with Los Espectaculares del Merengue and also played with Los Kenton and Tempo Dominicano. He presented new material, including 'Amor que no se olvida' and 'El verano'. He reunited with Arnaldo Vallellanes and Carlos Javier Ortiz (Carlitos) from his five-and-a-half years with Los Sabrosos del Merengue, and re-formed Grupo Wao with former partners Julio César Muñoz and José Ramón Encarnación 'Papucho'.
Fuera de Liga opened the show, and Wilfridín and Víctor Miranda also appeared. PR Ticket and Chucky Enterprises presented him with a sold-out sign, and Senate vice president Carmelo Ríos delivered a congratulatory resolution, unanimously approved by the Senate. Ramos also honored Luis Morales, founder of the Salón Villa Real.
