Defense attorney Francisco Rebollo Casalduc asked a federal court in Hato Rey to sentence urban music artist CDobleta, whose legal name is Luis Nomar Isaac Sánchez, to the minimum sentence in his plea agreement, 27 years in prison, opposing the federal prosecutors’ request filed Friday for 32 years, the maximum allowed under the agreement. Rebollo Casalduc argued that Isaac Sánchez, who is 21, showed immaturity, has no prior record, and was involved in criminal activity for less time than his co-defendants.
He said the plea agreement’s calculations could be more severe than a simple guilty plea and that the standard approved by the US Congress is a sentence 'sufficient, but not greater than necessary'. Prosecutors asked 34 years for gang leader Víctor Pérez Fernández, 28 years each for Andyel González Sáez and Daniel López Vega, and 30 years and four months for Olvin O’Neill Concepción Tapia.
The five pleaded guilty to distributing drugs in public housing in Carolina and nearby areas and to killing Puerto Rico Police Sergeant Eliezer Ramos Vélez at the entrance of the Sabana Abajo public housing in Carolina in the early hours of March 29, 2024, believing he was a rival gang member; they had faced the death penalty without the agreements. Judge María Antongiorgi Jordán moved the sentencing hearing from Wednesday to Friday, and Pérez Fernández is to be sentenced Tuesday.
