The defense of urban music artist Luis Nomar Isaac Sánchez, known as CDobleta, asked a federal judge for a 27-year prison sentence, five years less than the 32 years sought by federal prosecutors on October 16 in the case over the killing of Puerto Rico Police sergeant Eliezer Ramos Vélez. In a six-page motion filed October 18 by lawyer Francisco Rebollo Casalduc, the defense argued Isaac Sánchez’s role in the killing was limited, citing his age and lack of prior criminal record, and asked district judge María Antongiorgi Jordán of the federal court in Hato Rey for a sentence below 32 years on the two charges to which he pleaded guilty.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for Friday at 9:00 AM in courtroom 2 of the federal court. The defense noted that individuals more directly involved in the killing of the officer, shot dead on March 29, 2024, in Carolina after a pursuit that began on the Román Baldorioty de Castro expressway, left genetic markers at the scene, while no such evidence points to Isaac Sánchez.
Co-defendants Andyel González Sáez, Olvin O’Neill Concepción Tapia and Daniel J. López Vega will also be sentenced Friday. All initially faced possible death sentences. Alleged gang leader Víctor Pérez Fernández, alias La Cone, was already sentenced to 45 years in prison.
The case stems from charges against 56 alleged members of a drug-trafficking alliance, La Familia, operating since 2021 in San Juan, Carolina and nearby areas, which prosecutors said involved corrupt police officers.
