Puerto Rican Voters in Florida Favor Democrats Ahead of November 3 Election, Univision/YouGov Poll Finds

Why this matters: With about 1.3 million Puerto Ricans in Florida, the community’s 51-36 Democratic edge on a generic Senate ballot and 61% support for a border-security-plus-pathway-to-citizenship approach signal how the diaspora could shape the November 3 contests and the road to the 2028 presidential race.

Puerto Rican voters in Florida prefer Democratic candidates over Republicans in the November 3 legislative elections, according to a Univision/YouGov poll. On a generic federal Senate ballot without candidate names, Puerto Ricans favored a Democrat 51% to 36%; Republican Senator Ashley Moody, appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis after Marco Rubio was confirmed as Secretary of State, faces Democratic state legislator Angie Nixon, and Moody led Nixon in positive ratings among Puerto Ricans 38% to 36%, though with higher unfavorability.

On a generic House ballot, Puerto Ricans backed Democrats 54% to 36%, and they favor Democratic gubernatorial candidate David Jolly over Republican Congressman Byron Donalds 51% to 35%. The roughly 1.3 million Puerto Ricans in the state trust Democrats more on fighting corruption (35-22), cost of living (43-24), gas prices (41-23), rising medication prices (40-27) and protecting immigrant rights (51-20).

Camille Rivera, founder of La Brega y Fuerza En Acción, urged Democrats to mobilize Puerto Rican voters. Latinos overall favor Democrats by narrower margins, while Cubans favor Republicans, and Republicans lead among the general population: Donalds 51-42, Moody 50-42. President Donald Trump’s favorability stands at 30% among Puerto Ricans versus 44% among Floridians.

The poll surveyed 937 Latino voters from October 2 to 15, with a 4% margin of error; the Puerto Rican subsample size was not specified.
