Luis Dávila Pernas, president of the Puerto Rico Democratic Party, said a recent photo of President Donald Trump with Venezuela's interim leader Delcy Rodríguez comes at a 'very bad' moment for Republicans, about a month before the midterm elections. He said Democrats argue Trump removed Nicolás Maduro only to leave another dictator in place and is doing nothing to change that.
Dávila Pernas said he would travel to central Florida that day with other Puerto Rico leaders to campaign for Congressman Darren Soto and other candidates. On redistricting affecting Soto's District 9, he said the new map split the Osceola and Orange areas, home to many Puerto Ricans and Latinos, and added a large territorial extension including Indian River County, which Trump won by more than 20 points.
He said Puerto Ricans moving to the U.S. mainland have gradually integrated into politics, though many register as independents. He added that after the 2030 census, Florida will likely gain three congressional seats and three Electoral College votes.
