Veteran point guard Dayshalee Salamán of the Cangrejeras of Santurce announced this week that she will retire from Puerto Rico’s Women’s Superior National Basketball (BSNF) league at the end of the season, closing a 13-season career plus international play with the Puerto Rican national team. "I have made the decision that this year will be my final season in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional Femenino -- a sport I love and to which I owe everything I am," the 36-year-old known as "Dinamita" said in written remarks on Wednesday.
She debuted in 2013 with the Leonas of Ponce, winning a championship that first season and unanimous Rookie of the Year honors; in the decisive game, Ponce beat the Montañeras of Morovis 70-64, with Salamán scoring 13 points, to take the series in five games. She played eight seasons with the Cangrejeras and helped win the 2024 title, earning Final Series MVP.
Her 2024 return followed a two-year absence after her stepfather died in a car accident and her grandmother died of health issues; that season she averaged 8.8 points and 3.5 assists and won Comeback Player of the Year. Internationally she played in the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, the 2019 Olympic qualifying tournament that secured Tokyo 2020, the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, 2017 Centrobasket and AmeriCup, and professionally in Argentina and Mexico.
