Reborn Family Center will hold a new edition of its free community gathering “Un Café por Nuestros Hijos” this Sunday, October 25, starting at 3:00 PM at the Salón Entre Montañas of Hotel Vista Alegre in Barranquitas. Dr. Axel Ramos will serve as keynote speaker, and a panel of psychologists, family therapists and social work professionals will share tools for coping with grief.
The program includes musical performances, a coffee social space and a practical emotional-support guide for each attendee. The event is open to parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and grandparents mourning the loss of a child or relative. The initiative was launched by Dyhalmaris Hernández, co-founder and director of Reborn Family Center, after her son Eddie Caraballo Hernández died in a traffic accident in Mayagüez in December 2024.
Through these workshops the organization says it has reached more than a thousand mothers and fathers. Department of Health statistics for 2016-2023 show Barranquitas with an adjusted suicide rate of 13.3 per 100,000 residents, placing the town among the priority zones of the Coalition for Suicide Prevention. The event is backed by MCS Foundation, whose alliance keeps it free. Interested attendees can register in advance through an online form.
