Puerto Rico’s Senate has placed on its calendar House Joint Resolution 373, which would order the government to assign $5 million every year to the Sociedad de Educación y Rehabilitación (SER) de Puerto Rico. The measure reflects an administration bill and directs the Office of Management and Budget to identify and reserve the resources for this recurring allocation, which would be included in the government’s General Budget.
SER de Puerto Rico would have to submit a report on or before June 30 each year accounting for how the money is used. The measure received a favorable report from the Senate Finance Committee. SER currently receives an annual legislative donation of $1.2 million, as well as money from the General Fund.
Law 16-2026 declared SER de Puerto Rico a Patrimonio del Pueblo de Puerto Rico (a heritage of the people of Puerto Rico), recognizing its 75-year history.
