Federal agents arrested Ana Tahiri Acevedo Brito on Tuesday in Puerto Rico after she evaded Dominican authorities and entered the island illegally, the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) office in San Juan reported. Acevedo Brito was convicted of homicide in the Dominican Republic in 2022 and later fled before reaching Puerto Rico. She had an arrest warrant and a red notice from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), which is a request to police forces worldwide to locate and provisionally detain a person while extradition or another judicial proceeding is processed.

Once on the island, she got work as a caregiver in a private residence. HSI San Juan said she is also suspected of crimes related to the financial exploitation of vulnerable older adults. The U.S. Marshals Service and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) collaborated in the arrest.

HSI San Juan said that, as the investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security, it continues working hand in hand with federal and international agencies to locate and arrest people wanted for serious crimes and protect communities.
