Republican mega-donor and businessman Elon Musk has embraced President Donald Trump’s argument that a Democratic victory in next Tuesday’s elections would open the door to Puerto Rico becoming a state. In a post on his social network X, published Thursday, Musk said a Democratic sweep of the Congress, the Senate and the presidency in 2028 would lead to Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico being made states 'to gain a strong majority in the Senate'.
He also warned of other alleged dangers of a Democratic win, such as opening the border and expanding the number of justices on the Supreme Court. 'This would turn America into a permanent one-party state and the end of democracy in any real sense of the word,' he said, urging his followers to vote for Republican senators. 'All it takes to make sure this doesn’t happen is 51 Republican senators in 2029. That is why you must vote for Republican senators. Any other reason is irrelevant compared to this.'
