Published Oct 31, 2026, 7:00 PM ASTvia WAPA TV

A mother in Ponce, Puerto Rico is asking for help obtaining a motorized wheelchair and a vehicle with a ramp for her son, Luis Javier Tonge Torres, who recently underwent surgery and has progressive conditions: Marfan syndrome and severe scoliosis. His mother, Jacqueline, who is raising him and his three siblings, requested the equipment from her health plan, but the plan denied the request.

She also sought assistance from the Municipality of Ponce and has so far received no formal response. The housing complex administration installed a provisional ramp to help with his daily access, but the family says they need an adapted vehicle to meet the needs of all household members, especially Luis Javier. WAPA TV’s NotiCentro information desk contacted the Municipality of Ponce, which said it is already handling the case.

Viewers who wish to help Luis Javier and his mother Jacqueline can do so by scanning the QR code shown in the video accompanying the story.
