Why this matters: The weekend’s nine deaths add to island-wide year-to-date figures the Police Bureau tracks: 365 killings and 198 fatal crashes so far in 2026, both running below 2025’s pace.

The Puerto Rico Police Bureau reported two killings, two fatal traffic accidents, two suicides and three people wounded by gunfire during the Halloween weekend, from Friday, October 30, through Sunday, November 1, 2026. Both killings occurred Saturday. The first was reported at 12:38 AM on Modesto Vélez street in Santa Isabel, where officers found the shot, lifeless body of an unidentified man.

The second was registered at 10:05 PM on Campos street at its intersection with Caracas street, in front of the business La Otra Esquina, in the Bélgica sector of Ponce; that victim was also unidentified. The first fatal crash happened Friday at 2:49 AM on PR-30, kilometer 2.4, in Caguas: driver Yamila Monserrate Flores, 18, of Gurabo, died after her vehicle hit a steel barrier.

The second was reported Sunday at 1:40 AM in the Parcelas Macana area of Guayanilla, where driver Ashley Cristal Arroyo Maldonado, 32, of that town, died after her vehicle struck a concrete fence. The suicides included Josué Dávila Dones, 47, in Juncos on Friday, and an unidentified 58-year-old woman found dead at her home in Manatí on Sunday.

The shooting victims were reported Sunday in Isla Verde, Santa Isabel and Aguas Buenas. Year to date, the island has recorded 365 killings, down from 383 in the same period of 2025, and 198 fatal accidents, down from 220.
