A family in the Los Barros sector of Patillas says a deep, worsening sinkhole threatens to cut off access to their homes, and that after 15 years of waiting for a fix, promises from the authorities responsible for the emergency have not produced concrete action. One of the affected residents said they were even promised federal funds to repair the road, but more than four years have passed since that commitment and they still have no solution.
The problem is on a municipal road that connects with state road PR-7759 and serves as the main access to their homes. While the fix remains pending, residents say they live with constant fear that the ground will keep giving way and that a relative, neighbor or visitor could end up the victim of an accident. The family says getting home has become a daily risk.
