Patillas is a beach town and municipality on Puerto Rico's southeastern coast, about 33 miles from San Juan. It lies south of San Lorenzo, west of Yabucoa and Maunabo, and east of Guayama and Arroyo, and is organized into 15 barrios plus Patillas Pueblo, with a population of approximately 15,985. It is part of the Guayama Metropolitan Statistical Area and belongs to the South region.

Balneario de Patillas, also known as Playa de Patillas, is a public beach resort in the municipality of Patillas, featuring a playground and a place to eat or drink. It is managed by the Municipio de Patillas. Note that there are no lifeguards on duty.

The southeastern coast between Guayama and Patillas is characterized by strong Caribbean trade winds and open water. The area's flat bays and sandy shores create favorable conditions for kite activities. The best time to visit is from November to May, when the southeastern trade winds are prevalent, with typical conditions including southeast trades of 18–28 kt and flat bay water.
